I'm sure you know by now that I love dies, especially large background dies. They are a quick and easy way to add both texture and interest to your cards. I have wanted this lattice die ever since our new catalog came out in May, but only just recently purchased the suite of products. For the card in my video, I show you a different way to use the die and I think you'll like it. I also have seven other cards using the die to inspire you to be creative with it. Many of the cards use products from the Awash in Beauty Suite, but I also branched out to give you a wide range of colors and styles.
Gather your supplies:Cardstock: Coastal Cabana 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and 2" x 2-1/2"; Basic White 4" x 5-1/4", (2) 3-1/2" x 3-1/2", and 2-3/4" x 3"
- Stamp Bundles: True Beauty and Charming Sentiments
- Die: Stylish Shapes
- Ribbon: Soft Seafood Seam Binding 11"
- Ink: Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay
- Other: Bermuda Bay Stampin' Blends (I used the light shade)
- Adhesive and Tools
My sample was made using Soft Sea Foam because I love the ribbon! But in my video, I decided to make the card in slightly different shades. With Blends, it's easy to color ribbons to make them the color you need! Simply place the Soft Sea Foam ribbon on a piece of scrap paper and use the brush tip of the light Bermuda Bay Blend to color it. You don't have to flip it over, as the ink will saturate the ribbon. Set it aside to dry completely.
On the small scrap of white paper, stamp off the branch/flower design with Coastal Cabana. Also stamp the sentiment in Bermuda Bay (in my video, I did it in Coastal Cabana, but it still looks OK) and die cut them. From the small scrap of Coastal, cut two berry branches. Lastly, cut one of the white squares with the lattice die.
Adhere the lattice square to the other white square. I like to use a fine tip glue bottle (you can get this for free when you order a Multipurpose Glue and two packs of Dimensionals) and get a little bit of glue all over the lattice so it will adhere very well. Then use the largest circle from the Stylish Shapes dies to cut it out.
Arrange the floral pieces on the left side of the lattice circle with glue. Pop up the sentiment with Mini Dimensionals. Lastly, tie the ribbon into a bow and adhere it with a Mini Glue Dot. To finish the card, stamp a greeting on the large white piece (I chose a birthday greeting). add a stamped off branch/flower in the corner and adhere to the inside of your card.
Let's take a look at my other cards made using the lattice die! The first two are similar and use the die in its entirety. The first one is Black on a Crumb Cake Base. I cut out some of the flowers from the Awash in Beauty DSP (I love that the dies and paper work together!) and finished with a simple sentiment strip and some Matte Black Dots. The second one was cut in white and colored with Stampin' Blends in a rainbow array. The opposite direction of the lattice and outside was colored in black. This yielded a subtle background to coordinate with the rainbow of flowers (where I added a few black dots in the center with a Stampin' Write Marker) cascading down the diagonal. Another small sentiment strip and some Iridescent Pearls are the final touches.
My next card uses only a portion of the lattice, which is cut with the Distressed Gold DSP. I stamped the flower in Pale Papaya, then added a little Calypso Coral with a Sponge Dauber before stamping on white. The birthday greeting is from Pansy Patch and the oval is from All That dies. The DSP is Awash in Beauty and the other colors of cardstock include Mossy Meadow, Pale Papaya and Calypso Coral.
I love this next card! I used Very Vanilla and cut the lattice into two pieces. The cut edge is covered by the Natural Woven ribbon and topped with flowers in Poppy Parade, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight. The leaves were stamped in both Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive. Retirement Wishes comes from Paradise Palms.
So when you cut out the lattice (I like running it through the rollers two or three times), you end up with lots and lots of diamonds, which fall right out of the die cut piece. I'm always looking for ways to use bits and pieces and this card does just that. I added Mini Dimensionals to some diamonds and used a straight edge to align four of them in a row. After that, I added more diamonds around it until I liked the arrangement. A simple stamped and die cut flower was popped up next to the diamonds. I added a twine bow to match the Orchid Oasis card base next to the sentiment. The final touch was to splatter some ink from the Stampin' Write Marker.
I almost forgot to make this next sample. It was in my mind to create and just before filming, I remembered I hadn't done this. It's a little bit fussy to do, but the results are fun and it makes the lattice almost look like argyle. Cut the lattice and turn it upside down on a quarter sized piece of white. Use a pencil to trace the diamonds all along the edges. Remove the die cut and using a ruler, add lines in the middle of the diamonds in Poppy Parade. Keep moving down the card until you have all the diagonal lines going in that direction complete. Repeat with the opposite diagonal lines in Granny Apple Green, then erase the pencil lines. Lastly, adhere the Glimmer Specialty Paper lattice on top and trim off the excess white cardstock. The holly/berries are from Christmas Season. Cut them and a label with the Seasonal Labels and stamp your holiday sentiment from the Brightest Glow stamp set. I love it!
For my last sample, I envisioned a window - perhaps something you might see in Europe, overlooking fields of flowers. I started with Fluid 100 Watercolor painter where I added a wash in Balmy Blue and Pear Pizzazz. On top of that, I added flowers from the Nature's Harvest set and Stazon ink, then colored them with my Water Painters. I added some texture to the flower bottoms with a stamp from that same set. After adhering my Soft Suede lattice on top and trimming off the edges, I cut it down the middle vertically. I added it to a gate fold Daffodil Delight card base and finished with a simple belly band with my sentiment. I was so happy that what I thought up in my head turned out just the way I wanted it to!
So there you have it - eight cards using the fabulous lattice die. I hope I've inspired you to give it a try! See you next time,
Karen
