Loving the Sunshine!

Summer is here and so is my Box of Sunshine, the newest Paper Pumpkin® Kit!  Every month, I am anxiously checking my mailbox to see if it has arrived.  These past few months, it is taking longer to get here and my excitement for its arrival just builds!

This month's kit makes eight cards, of four different designs and I am in love!  In addition to the card components, each kit has an exclusive stamp set, a Stampin' Spot (ink pad), adhesive, sequins and envelopes (and if it's your first kit, you will also get a block!).  Take a look:

These are the cards made as shown in the kit.

I decided to play with the stamps and materials and make some alternatives (as I always do!).  I host a free workshop for my Paper Pumpkin subscribers where you bring your kit and assemble your cards, or perhaps make some of the alternative ideas I show you.  Details are on my calendar at my store.

I still have plenty of card ideas in my head for the remainder of my pieces (Stampin' Up! gives you plenty of extras in each kit).  After I'm done, I can decorate the box and fill it with yellow items to give to someone and brighten their day.  It's just genius!!

I encourage you to sign up for a subscription - you can do month by month, or purchase up to a year at a time - visit my store for details.  Every month is different and sometimes you make 3-D projects instead of cards.  You won't be disappointed!

Scrappy Strips - A Quilter's Perspective

Have you noticed that scrappy cards are very trendy right now? I've been a quilter for for over 40 years and I know a little about scraps!  I love piecing scraps together to make my quilts and I have hundreds of fabric scraps just for that purpose.  I love to quilt by hand and whether I'm piecing or appliquéing a quilt, having just a little scrap can add the perfect finishing touch.  Here are some pics of one of my pieced together quilts:

Fall Leaves Wall Hanging

I decided to make some cards using the scrappy strips technique.  I started with the card I demonstrate on the video and had plenty of scraps left when I was finished.  I kept using those pieces and ended up with enough panels for three more cards!

Gather your supplies for the first card:

Whisper White: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", folded and creased
Just Jade: 4" x 5-1/4", 3-3/4" x 5"
Flowers for Every Season DSP: Seven designs, 1" x 6", cut into two pieces each
Bumblebee: Scrap for label
Cinnamon Cider Ink Pad
Flowers for Every Season white ribbon

As I show on the video, cut each of the DSP strips into two pieces, changing the angle a bit with each paper.  Start adhering a strip on the smaller pieces of jade paper, keeping this piece right along the edge and bottom.  Continue adding strips, leaving a little gap between them.  Keep the ends of each strip as close to either the top or bottom in order to have as many leftover strips as possible.  Repeat until you reach the end of the jade piece (it's ok if it hangs over the side).  Trim the pieces flush with the jade piece.

Mount this piece to the larger jade piece and adhere to the card base with dimensionals.  Stamp your sentiment onto the label and adhere with more dimensionals.  Finish off the card with a bow adhered with a mini glue dot.  A nice touch is to add an additional strip of the DSP to the inside of your card as well as the flap of your envelope.

Now with the leftover pieces, you should have enough to decorate two 1-3/8" x 5-1/2" strips of white and one 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" piece of white.  Here are the additional cards I made using those three pieces:

Bumblebee: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", folded and creased
Just Jade: 1-1/2" x 3-1/2", embossed; tiny strip approximately 1/16" x 5-1/2"
Cinnamon Cider: 1-1/2" x 3-1/2", embossed; tiny strip approximately 1/16" x 5-1/2"

At the end of the video, I show you two more cards using different papers.  For one, I just used solid colors (these are the brand new In Colors released this month!).  After I made my scrappy piece, I embossed this panel, matted it in white, and then mounted it onto my card with dimensionals.  For the second one, I kept the scraps the same color, but embossed them in different patterns before adhering them to my card.  There are so many possibilities!  Playing with the paper pieces makes me want to get out my quilting fabric again and use it for quilting (not for making face masks - LOL).

Until next time,

Karen

New Catalog Goodies - Just Like Christmas!

You've heard me talk about the new catalog that was released on June 3rd and you know I'm very excited... but now that my order has arrived, I can hardly stand it!  I don't know where to begin!!  I was able to order some products with a pre-order that all demonstrators could do in May, but this was a limited selection of items.  Don't get me wrong - I've had a blast playing with them!  They just made me want it all!

My order arrived today (oh so exciting!).  Let me start with the new In Colors!  I am thrilled with them - Misty Moonlight, Just Jade, Cinnamon Cider, Bumblebee and Magenta Madness! I've had the paper for a few weeks, but now I have the ink pads, blends and markers too.  They are wonderful, simply wonderful!

My newly arrived products!

The Whale Done suite is even more adorable than I thought it would be - I think I'm going to do a class with it.  The paper alone is gorgeous!  I got five new stamp sets, some with dies, and am ready to make plenty of samples to show at my Catalog Kick-off and Open House on June 28th.  I also received the new adhesives - Stampin' Seal and Stampin' Seal +.  From all I've seen, people are loving them.  We have new glimmer paper in a rainbow - it is so pretty!  And the paper packs will not disappoint - you'll be using some with my Make and Take project.  Stay tuned - I'll be showing off samples here too!  And in my next video, coming next week!

Until next time,

Karen
