New Size Designer Series Paper - 8 Layouts!

If you've been using Stampin' Up! products for any length of time, you know that our Designer Series Paper (DSP) packs usually come in a 12" x 12" or 6" x 6" size.  Now we have a new size - 4" x 6"!  This is a fabulous size and I have eight layouts for you in my video that will use nearly every bit of each sheet.  This pack has four each of 12 double sided designs.  One side has gold accents and the other side does not and there is a large variety of patterns and colors to choose from.  I really love this pack because it's quick and easy to make beautiful cards as the paper alone is a star!

Gather your supplies:

  • Cardstock:  Just Jade 8-1/2" x 5-1/2"; Basic White 4" x 5-1/4"; and Abstract Beauty DSP (full sheet)
  • Stamp Set: Plentiful Plants (but any sentiment will work)
  • Ink:  Just Jade
  • Ribbon: Just Jade & Gold Braided Ribbon 12"
  • Punch: Everyday Label
  • Adhesive and Tools
For my first layout, I chose a pattern where both sides worked well together and that you could stamp on the non-gold side.  Trim off 3/4" from the bottom and set this aside.  Next take your punch and push the 4" side of your DSP in as far as it will go, centering it from side to side.  Punch out the label, turn it to the non-gold accented side and stamp the sentiment with Just Jade ink.

Adhere the large piece of the DSP onto the Just Jade card base which has been folded in half and creased with your bone folder.  Use Dimensionals to pop up the label with the sentiment.  Because the card stock is darker than the label, it looks like it has a shadow.  Tie a bow with the ribbon and adhere to the bottom of the label with a glue dot.

To finish the card, stamp the inside sentiment on the small piece of DSP that was trimmed off, trimming as desired.  Adhere this to the white layer and add this to the inside of your card.  This layout works great with quite a few of the designs as you can see with my original sample shown to the left.

My next two samples also start with trimming a piece of the DSP by 3/4".  For the first one, I used the cut-off strip to decorate the inside of the card and just added another die cut label and a splash of ribbon on the front.  The second one uses that strip (the reverse side) for the sentiment.  I then matted it with a slightly wider strip (1") piece of white and popped it up on the front.  This is great way to showcase the bold designs found in this pack.

For the next two cards, I cut a piece of the DSP in half, yielding two 3" x 4" pieces.  For the first card, cut the 3" x 4" piece into four 1" strips.  Flip two of them to the reverse side and arrange them on the card front, angling them as shown.  Add a small sentiment strip (about 1/2" wide) to the top of them with dimensionals.  A few embellishments on the sentiment strip add just the right touch.  For the second card, the half piece is the focal point of the card.  Add a large die with your sentiment popped up in the middle.  If desired, add a bow or other die cut design like the flower in my example.  I love that you can make two lovely cards with just one sheet of the DSP!

The next card starts with the sheet of DSP cut in half length-wise.  After adding this piece to the card front, I added a strip of Tear & Tape next to the DSP and adhered our Gold Flakes.  This is a wonderful way to bring out the gold in the paper.  You could get the same effect with a 1/4" strip of Gold Foil too.  I then cut a small strip of the remaining piece of the DSP to add to the inside and used the remainder (trimmed as needed) to decorate the envelope.

For the next card, I trimmed 1/4" off the long sided of the DSP and 1" off the bottom to yield a 3-3/4" x 5" piece.  I then cut this piece in half and added both pieces (one flipped) to a 4" x 5-1/4" mat of a coordinating color.  Tie a ribbon around the matted pieced at the seam.  The final touch is to add a sentiment stamped on a label or die cut piece.

Lastly, I have a layout that also uses 1/2 of a sheet.  From that half, cut the piece in two so you have two 1-1/2" x 4" strips.  Flag the ends and lay them on your card front, trimming one of them to be shorter than the other.  Add a bow of coordinating colors and stamp your sentiment directly onto the card front.

As you can see, there is very little wasted on these designs.  The patterns are so lovely, there is little else you need to add to make beautiful cards.  You will be surprised at how easily you will fall in love with this new size!

Make Stamps with Fun Foam and Dies

Most of the time, dies in our bundles will cut out images in the stamp set, but sometimes, they don’t. The Love & Happiness bundle has dies shaped like hearts and flowers and these are perfect shapes to cut out of fun foam!  I like to use 3 mm thick fun foam - simply cut out the shapes using your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine, just like the foam was paper.  Watch my video here!

After you cut the foam into shapes, adhere them to blocks with Seal.  Alternatively, you can cut strips from the excess label material and use that to stick the foam to the block.  When you stamp with the foam, make sure you get good ink coverage, particularly for the first image.  It also takes a bit more effort to clean - test on scrap paper before inking in a different color.  You may also notice that inks appear darker or more intense than from normal stamps.

Gather your supplies:

  • Cardstock:  Polished Pink 8-1/2" x 5-1/2"; Basic White 2" x 5-1/2", 2-1/4" x 5-1/2" and 1-3/4" x 1-1/4"
  • Stamp Set: Sweet Conversations
  • Ink:  Polished Pink and Night of Navy
  • Dies: Bouquet of Love Bundle and Layering Circles
  • Ribbon: Denim 7" and 11"
  • Adhesive and Tools
  • Fun Foam (3mm thick)

Fold the card base in half and crease the fold with bone folder.  Use the stamp made from the small stitched heart and Polished Pink to stamp hearts all over the 2" strip of Basic White.  Mat this with the wider strip of white.  Add the 7” piece of ribbon in the middle of this piece, adhering it with Seal +.  Add Dimensionals and mount this to the card front.

On the small square of white, stamp the sentiment in Night of Navy ink.  Use the second smallest circle die to cut this into a circle.  Pop this up over the ribbon near the right side.  Tie a bow with the 11” piece of denim ribbon and adhere to the front as shown.

For this card, I made a cluster of flowers and leaves and fussy cut them out.  I stamped the large heart in Coastal Cabana (look how dark it looks!).  The sentiment is from Rainbow of Happiness.  If you want to spruce it up, you could add some bling in the center of the hearts.

The next two cards use the sentiments from Love & Happiness - don't you just love how cool the stitching looks on the hearts and leaves?

Another great set for making stamps is the Pierced Blooms (which coordinates with In Bloom stamp set).  This set of dies has 25 shapes and yields a great variety of flowers and leaves.  Using fun foam to make stamps is a fantastic way to get more from your bundles.  And don't forget - you can get bonus stamps and paper during Sale-a-bration!
