I love when I find a great color palette!  When I was looking back at some of my old cards I made several years ago, I found one with a great color combination that was featured in the catalog (always a wonderful source on inspiration!).  I really loved the layout and wanted to recreate it with colors from our current catalog.  The colors I put together are bright and happy and I knew I had a winning combination.

The other piece to my inspiration was a new set of dies - only available in September - that pair with the Apple Harvest stamp set.  I love that this die set is jam packed with pieces - many of them are additional pieces that compliment the stamp set. For the card in my video, I use the flowers and leaves, but stay tuned because I use some of the other dies and stamps too.

Gather your supplies:
  • Cardstock: Bermuda Bay 5-1/2" x 8-1/2"; Basic White (2) 4" x 5-1/4" and 1-1/2" x 4"; Bermuda Bay, Parakeet Party, Daffodil Delight, Polished Pink and Orchid Oasis 1/2" strip plus scraps
  • Stamp Sets:  Celebrate with Tags and Quiet Meadow
  • Die: Apple Blossom and Stylish Shapes
  • Embossing Folder:  Timeworn Type 3D
  • Ink:  Bermuda Bay, Parakeet Party, Daffodil Delight, Polished Pink and Orchid Oasis
  • Other:  Iridescent Pearls
  • Adhesive and Tools

For my white panel, I wanted an embossed design that was subtle so I chose the Timeworn Type.  On top of this, I layered my strips of color diagonally with a tiny gap between the colors.  To make them a little more interesting, I stamped the dots from the Quiet Meadow stamp set in the same ink as the paper.  You can use any texture type stamp for this - just something rather small in scale.  Once these are glued in place, trim off the edges and adhere this to your Bermuda Bay card base.

Next stamp your birthday sentiment on the small white piece.  Cut this out with the banner die, along with flowers and leaves from the scraps of cardstock.  I used one large flower, five small flowers (three for the inside) and six leaves (two large and four small).  I added the flowers and sentiment with Dimensionals to my card front, and tucked the leaves under the flowers with glue. Iridescent Pearls add just a touch of bling to the flower centers.

The inside panel has Let's Celebrate You stamped in Orchid Oasis surrounded by three small flowers.  I used the small flower from the Apple Harvest stamp set to add a few to the corner of my envelope.

There were so many ideas I had in my head with this fabulous color palette!  Staying with the Apple Harvest bundle to begin, I stamped the pair of apples and colored them with Stampin' Blends.  I used the color lifter to make the inside of golden delicious apple even lighter.  After cutting it out with the die, I mounted it on a vellum circle (again, from my favorite Stylish Shapes dies) and popped this up on paper from the Tea Boutique DSP pack, which I had added a few of the crosshatch designs to in the corners.  The sentiment was cut with a die (I used the trick to shorten a die shape to make it fit better) and placed over the white baker's twine.

Next I used the scallop (a sweet addition to the die set!) to cut a scallop off the top on 1-1/2" x 4" rectangles in each of my five colors.  Save that little scallop for the next card.  Layer the five colors together for your card front.  I used the Better Days stamp set and fussy cut the design.  The sentiment is matted in black and trimmed with the Black & White Gingham ribbon.

Time to use those tiny scallops!  I adhered them to a black panel and added a black and white tea cup from the Cup of Tea bundle next to them.  The flowers and greenery use all five colors and like I did on my first card, I used Iridescent Pearls for my flower centers.

The next three cards branch away from the Apple Harvest dies, but stay with the color palette.  This one is super easy!  I used the Watercolor Shapes stamp set to add circles down the right side (and envelope flap) of a Thick Basic White card base.  The sentiment is from Good Feelings and Matte Black Dots are all that is needed to make this happy card.

The next two cards are made with Fluid 100 Watercolor paper.  Both use a 3" x 4-1/4" piece which gets matted in black when dry, Water Painters and Ink Refills to color the designs.  One uses stripes of color, dried between each addition and the other has all the colors blending into each other to form a colorful backdrop.  I used the Summer Shadows dies for the flowers and leaves on the striped background and Stazon ink for the sentiment.  Before mounting it to my card base, I spritzed it with a black Stampin' Write marker.  The sentiment for the other one was embossed in white using the Charming Sentiments bundle.  Before adding the colorful panel to my card base, I spritzed it with Wink of Stella to add just a lovely amount of sparkle.  This one is a wedding card for my best friend's daughter who is getting married later this week.

I had a blast playing with this color scheme and the Apple Harvest Bundle.  The dies are only available while supplies last during the month of September.  There are other great dies available for this special offering too - don't miss out!

Organic Beauty Dies Featuring the Lattice Die

I'm sure you know by now that I love dies, especially large background dies.  They are a quick and easy way to add both texture and interest to your cards.  I have wanted this lattice die ever since our new catalog came out in May, but only just recently purchased the suite of products.  For the card in my video, I show you a different way to use the die and I think you'll like it.  I also have seven other cards using the die to inspire you to be creative with it.  Many of the cards use products from the Awash in Beauty Suite, but I also branched out to give you a wide range of colors and styles.

Gather your supplies:

Cardstock: Coastal Cabana 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and 2" x 2-1/2"; Basic White 4" x 5-1/4", (2) 3-1/2" x 3-1/2", and 2-3/4" x 3"
  • Stamp Bundles:  True Beauty and Charming Sentiments
  • Die: Stylish Shapes
  • Ribbon: Soft Seafood Seam Binding 11"
  • Ink:  Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay
  • Other:  Bermuda Bay Stampin' Blends (I used the light shade)
  • Adhesive and Tools

My sample was made using Soft Sea Foam because I love the ribbon!  But in my video, I decided to make the card in slightly different shades.  With Blends, it's easy to color ribbons to make them the color you need!  Simply place the Soft Sea Foam ribbon on a piece of scrap paper and use the brush tip of the light Bermuda Bay Blend to color it.  You don't have to flip it over, as the ink will saturate the ribbon.  Set it aside to dry completely.

On the small scrap of white paper, stamp off the branch/flower design with Coastal Cabana.  Also stamp the sentiment in Bermuda Bay (in my video, I did it in Coastal Cabana, but it still looks OK) and die cut them.  From the small scrap of Coastal, cut two berry branches.  Lastly, cut one of the white squares with the lattice die.

Adhere the lattice square to the other white square.  I like to use a fine tip glue bottle (you can get this for free when you order a Multipurpose Glue and two packs of Dimensionals) and get a little bit of glue all over the lattice so it will adhere very well.  Then use the largest circle from the Stylish Shapes dies to cut it out.

Arrange the floral pieces on the left side of the lattice circle with glue.  Pop up the sentiment with Mini Dimensionals.  Lastly, tie the ribbon into a bow and adhere it with a Mini Glue Dot.  To finish the card, stamp a greeting on the large white piece (I chose a birthday greeting). add a stamped off branch/flower in the corner and adhere to the inside of your card.

Let's take a look at my other cards made using the lattice die!  The first two are similar and use the die in its entirety.  The first one is Black on a Crumb Cake Base.  I cut out some of the flowers from the Awash in Beauty DSP (I love that the dies and paper work together!) and finished with a simple sentiment strip and some Matte Black Dots.  The second one was cut in white and colored with Stampin' Blends in a rainbow array.  The opposite direction of the lattice and outside was colored in black.  This yielded a subtle background to coordinate with the rainbow of flowers (where I added a few black dots in the center with a Stampin' Write Marker) cascading down the diagonal.  Another small sentiment strip and some Iridescent Pearls are the final touches.

My next card uses only a portion of the lattice, which is cut with the Distressed Gold DSP.  I stamped the flower in Pale Papaya, then added a little Calypso Coral with a Sponge Dauber before stamping on white.  The birthday greeting is from Pansy Patch and the oval is from All That dies.  The DSP is Awash in Beauty and the other colors of cardstock include Mossy Meadow, Pale Papaya and Calypso Coral.

I love this next card!  I used Very Vanilla and cut the lattice into two pieces.  The cut edge is covered by the Natural Woven ribbon and topped with flowers in Poppy Parade, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight.  The leaves were stamped in both Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive.  Retirement Wishes comes from Paradise Palms.

So when you cut out the lattice (I like running it through the rollers two or three times), you end up with lots and lots of diamonds, which fall right out of the die cut piece.  I'm always looking for ways to use bits and pieces and this card does just that.  I added Mini Dimensionals to some diamonds and used a straight edge to align four of them in a row.  After that, I added more diamonds around it until I liked the arrangement.  A simple stamped and die cut flower was popped up next to the diamonds.  I added a twine bow to match the Orchid Oasis card base next to the sentiment.  The final touch was to splatter some ink from the Stampin' Write Marker.

I almost forgot to make this next sample.  It was in my mind to create and just before filming, I remembered I hadn't done this.  It's a little bit fussy to do, but the results are fun and it makes the lattice almost look like argyle.  Cut the lattice and turn it upside down on a quarter sized piece of white. Use a pencil to trace the diamonds all along the edges.  Remove the die cut and using a ruler, add lines in the middle of the diamonds in Poppy Parade.  Keep moving down the card until you have all the diagonal lines going in that direction complete.  Repeat with the opposite diagonal lines in Granny Apple Green, then erase the pencil lines.  Lastly, adhere the Glimmer Specialty Paper lattice on top and trim off the excess white cardstock.  The holly/berries are from Christmas Season.  Cut them and a label with the Seasonal Labels and stamp your holiday sentiment from the Brightest Glow stamp set.  I love it!

For my last sample, I envisioned a window - perhaps something you might see in Europe, overlooking fields of flowers.  I started with Fluid 100 Watercolor painter where I added a wash in Balmy Blue and Pear Pizzazz.  On top of that, I added flowers from the Nature's Harvest set and Stazon ink, then colored them with my Water Painters.  I added some texture to the flower bottoms with a stamp from that same set.  After adhering my Soft Suede lattice on top and trimming off the edges, I cut it down the middle vertically.  I added it to a gate fold Daffodil Delight card base and finished with a simple belly band with my sentiment.  I was so happy that what I thought up in my head turned out just the way I wanted it to!

So there you have it - eight cards using the fabulous lattice die.  I hope I've inspired you to give it a try!  See you next time,

Karen
