I love that Stampin' Up started offering on-line exclusive products! They are released three times a year and the release dates are about two months after the release of a catalog, which means we get to see new products more frequently! Everyone loves new products, especially me! One of the new products is this bundle. It has a lot of stamps (21!) and dies (17!) and I thought it might fun to show you all the fun things I created with it! Watch my video to see these eight cards, and some very helpful tips along the way.
When there are so many stamps and coordinating dies, it can be hard to really tell what's all in bundle - that's why I made this handy visual for you and me both. The sentiments and three of the stamps have no die; these are stamped on the white piece. Then, there are eight more stamps (the fruit, small cluster of bubbles, straw and can) that have dies to cut them out. The remainder are just dies (can parts, a label, more fruit and a large cluster of bubbles). I really should take the time to do this with all my bundles - seeing the sentiments all stamped in one direction is helpful.
Gather your supplies:
- Cardstock: Smoky Slate 8-1/2" x 4-1/4"; Basic White 3-1/2" x 5-1/2", 4" x 5-1/4", 1/2" strip; small scraps of Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral, Granny Apple Green and Sweet Sorbet
- Stamp Bundle: Simply Sparkling
- Ink: Smoky Slate, Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral, Granny Apple Green and Sweet Sorbet
- Other: Smoky Slate Stampin' Blend (I used the light one only)
- Adhesive and Tools
Stamp the can in Smoky Slate on the longer rectangle of Basic White. Cut out the three cans with your Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine. While you are cutting, take the scraps of papers and also cut the fruit and leaves. Stamp the swoosh in Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight and Calypso Coral in the center of the three cans and adhere the cans to the card base. It is helpful to glue down the outside cans first so that you can evenly space the middle can between them.
Add the leaves to the fruit die cuts. They are cleverly designed with a slot to insert the stem or leaf (all except the lemon - this one just gets glued to the back). I found it helpful to use my Take Your Pick tool to help open the slot slightly to make inserting the stem easier. I placed my Mini Dimensionals over the inserted stem/leaf to anchor it in place. Use additional Dimensionals to support the leaves (I cut some in half) and place them over the swoosh.
There are three sentiments describing the contents of each can. Because these are photo polymer, you can curve them as you are placing them on the block! This is a very helpful tip that I'm sure many people don't know about. When you do this, the writing looks like it is bending with the curve of the can.
Finish the card by stamping You're Soda-Lightful on the strip and popping that up over the top of the cans. For the interior panel, stamp Extra Bubbly in Sweet Sorbet and Birthday Wishes in Granny Apple Green just below it. Adhere the remaining strawberry die cut piece next to it. For the envelope, stamp FIZZ tactic in the corner and just the word Your'e above it.
My next sample was the first card I made when I started playing with the bundle. I stamped the can in Basic Black and cut it out. Then I colored it with Blends (Parakeet Party and Smoky Slate). I started adding the darker color to the outside with little flicking motions. I kept adding more and more color in layers, moving toward the center of the can. By adding layers upon layers, I achieved a lovely blend across the can, making it look quite realistic! I was inspired to try coloring the can by Alisa Tilsner, an Australian Demonstrator who is an amazing colorist with Blends.
My next card is all about the bubbles! I used the Soft Shimmer paper in Bubble Bath and Berry Burst to decorate the top half of my card. When I made my sample chart, I used an Adhesive Sheet before cutting out the large bubbles - it worked great. However, when I tried it with the Shimmer paper, it did not. This paper is thicker than most papers and whenever you cut out a detailed die cut shape, it is a little hard to get out all the small bits. With the addition of the adhesive, I was unsuccessful, so I just cut them out and applied clue to the pieces to adhere them to the white panel. I used a little strip of the Berry Burst to fit along the bottom of the white and on the inside piece. Even though this card was a time consuming one, I really love how sparkly and fun it turned out to be!
When I first saw this bundle, I immediately thought about using the Holographic Trio pack of specialty paper to make the cans - it was like it was meant to be! I mounted the two sentiments next to each other and stamped them all over the white piece to create a background for my shiny can. I used the label for POP (do you call it that, or Soda?) and added a strawberry. A simple mat in Orchid Oasis and a Real Red ribbon finish off the card.
I have to admit that when I first saw the splash stamp, I wasn't sure how to use it! Then I realized it was designed to decorate the can! (My daughter looked at it and said "Obviously, Mom" - made me laugh.) I used Tahitian Tide and Parakeet Party to make this fun sample. For my sentiment, I inked the end of the sentiment and stamped it first. Then I cleaned my stamp and inked just the first word in a different color to stamp above the first word. (See my
previous video on this technique and more.) Two helpful tips with this card - make sure you add Dimensionals only under the part of the can that overlaps the side panel, and after adhering, draw a light pencil line around the can so you know where to stamp your inside sentiment so that it won't show when the card is closed. (Don't forget to erase the pencil line afterwards!) One more tip I forgot to mention - you could easily use the word POP after Best ever to make this a wonderful Father's Day card.
My next two cards have nothing to do with cans at all! For the first one, I used the swoosh to make a colorful strip, then added some ribbon on either side. To make the bowl of strawberries, I cut a large circle (from the Reach for the Stars bundle), then cut it in half and trimmed a small bit off the bottom so the bowl could sit. I embossed it with the Basics 3D folder and filled it with strawberries - so adorable! On the second card, I used the Perennial Postage Dies (coming out in January) to be a place holder for my fruit. You could easily just use plain squares to pop up on the black panel. I borrowed sentiments from some other sets to finish my second fruit card.
I love to extend the life of a stamp set by combining it with other sets, like I did in the card above by using different sentiments. Here, I paired with the Brew For You stamp set and the Brewed Dies to make a beer can! My color palette is Pebbled Path, Smoky Slate and Granny Apple Green. Isn't this so perfect?
I had so much fun playing with this bundle. I encourage you to check out the on-line exclusives at my store regularly - there are many awesome products and you don't want to miss out on any of them! Have a FIZZ tastic day!
