If you are a scrapbooker, you may have already looked at the products in our scrapbooking line. But if you don't make scrapbooks, you may not ever realize that there are plenty of products there that are fantastic for cardmakers! One of those products is a DSP pack called Everyday Happiness and it is the feature of my video today. The paper has twelve two sided sheets in six patterns. The coordinating colors are Gray Granite, Pretty Peacock, Lost Lagoon, Very Vanilla, Wild Wheat, Pecan Pie and Mossy Meadow (although I would consider the last two better matched to some of the items in the scrapbooking workshop kit and not this particular pack of paper). I admit, these colors are not in my color comfort zone! However, I was drawn to them when they were announced last month and I am super happy with the cards I made using the paper. I also incorporated some of the Two Tone Cardstock papers in my cards and did some cool effects with them. Let's dive in to making a fun easel card!

Gather your supplies:- Cardstock: Wild Wheat 8-1/2" x 5-1/2"(scored at 4-1/4" and 2-1/8"); Pretty Peacock 3-7/16" x 4-11/16"; Lost Lagoon 3-1/4" x 4-1/2"; Everyday Happiness DSP 3" x 3", 3" x 1-1/8", 3/8" x 4-1/2"; Basic White 4" x 5-1/4", 3" x 3-1/4"
- Bundle: Mixed Labels
- Inks: Wild Wheat, Pretty Peacock
- Embellishment: Antique Pearls
- Stampin' Blends: Wild Wheat, Lost Lagoon
- Adhesive and Tools
Begin by folding your card base. I typically just fold my card in half, then fold the front flap so it meets the fold to create the easel as I demonstrate in the
video. Attach the two larger pieces of the DSP to the Lost Lagoon rectangle and mat this with the Pretty Peacock piece. For this card, I chose to use a narrow strip of paper rather a ribbon like I did in my initial sample. This is a great alternative if you don't have ribbon that coordinates! Place this strip about 1" from the bottom - it will be the same width as the Lost Lagoon Layer.
Cut out two of the labels from the smaller Basic White piece using the Mixed Labels dies. Stamp the sentiments with Wild Wheat ink. Attach the larger of the two to the layered panel as demonstrated with Dimensionals. Add two Antique Pearls at the points of the label.
Attach this to the front of the card, making sure to only place Dimensionals on the bottom half so the card will function properly when it's in the easel position. Add the large Basic White piece to the inside of the card and pop up the smaller sentiment label with Dimensionals. Add a few more pearls. Normally, I don't use dimension on the inside of the card, but this is needed to form the resting spot of folded card front, thus completing the easel.
For my envelope, I stamped the small flower cluster in Pretty Peacock ink and colored the flowers and leaves with Wild Wheat and Lost Lagoon (both light versions). I really love both versions of this card - one has a cooler feel, the other warmer. Which do you like better?
My first sample card again features the Mixed Labels bundle, but I kept this one more monochromatic. I colored the leaves with Blends in Lost Lagoon and tucked the die cut leaves among the colored ones to form a bouquet. This is one of my favorites!
Next comes another new stamp set called Spring Corners. It has several sentiments that have a corner design. I stamped the balloons with Gray Granite, colored them Blends and added some sparkle with Wink of Stella. For the Lost Lagoon mat, I distressed it with alcohol and then roughed up the edges. I will be doing a How Do I video on this shortly. For the bow, I used the Baker's Twine Essentials and took three 9" lengths of Very Vanilla. Two were colored with Blends (Wild Wheat and Lost Lagoon) before tying all three together and adhering with a Mini Glue Dot.
Another new bundle called Memorable Blooms was used for this card. The layer in the background is embossed with the Distressed Tile 3D folder. The DSP is a 3" x 4-1/2" rectangle, cut into three equal parts. I love how this paper has such variety in the stripes that it looks like two different papers. I added another little strip of embossed Pretty Peacock in the inside (love how it ties it all together) and also embossed the envelope flap. Here's a
video that shows you how I do that.
My next card features the Bright Borders stamp set and the To the Point Label punch. This layout is awesome for making lots of cards quickly! I do like adding a thin strip of solid paper between the two pattens of DSP - it gives it a polished look. I used more of the Antique Pearls to finish this wonderful retirement or graduation card.
In this card, I used some of the Two-Tone cardstock in Gray Granite. I thought I would be super efficient with my paper and cut the second largest arch (Everyday Arches) from the middle of the largest one, just on the reverse side. I figured they would just fit together like a puzzle. In hindsight, I think it would be easier and better to cut them individually and layer them like I normally do. Because I had only taped the two together from the back with some transparent tape, it was hard to add the Lost Lagoon Soft Cording around them. Still love the card though - hope you do too!
Time for some whimsey! The Darling Dinos bundle and the Nested Essentials dies make this one T-RRRIFIC card! I stamped the dino pieces in Pebbled Path and colored with Blends. I felt the face details got a bit lost, so I used a black pen to go over the lines. The Riverside Irregular Pearls were a perfect accent to add in the grassy knoll. I used more Two-Tone cardstock for the Pretty Peacock panel and distressed the edges with the blade of my Snips. Because of the white core of this paper, the edges have that touch of white. For the inside, I used the two smallest hexagon dies for my Happy Birthday - the plaid was cut from the large one of the front (this time, being efficient worked).
The Friendly Seagulls was one of my free Sale-a-Bration sets and for this card, I used Pecan Pie as the base. I stamped the sand in the same color and I think it looks good with the DSP in Wild Wheat. I colored the seagull with light Wild Wheat and Gray Granite Blends - not too much but a hint of shading to give more depth. The circle is from the Spotlight on Nature dies - such fun detail on the rim! My favorite part of this card is the little package of french fries on the envelope.
My last card would have been better if I had purchased the coordinating stamp set from this scrapbooking kit (it's on order now...). However, the flowers in the DSP reminded me of an old favorite from a few years ago called Abstract Impressions. I stamped flowers and leaves on the label (from the same punch mentioned above), on the inside and envelope. The Two-Tone Pretty Peacock cardstock was embossed with the Eyelet 3D folder, then buffed with a sanding block to reveal the white core. There are so many fun things you can do with the Two-Tone cardstock!
I hope you've enjoyed seeing my samples made using "scrapbook" paper. I've tried several packs of DSP designed for scrapbooking and have loved all of them. The sticker sheets are a fun add too - so check them out! Lastly, remember that Sale-a-Bration lasts until the end of February - great gifts with purchase, a fabulous incentive to join my team, and an extra bonus for workshops (or orders) of $300 or more!
