There are times when I have a square design in mind for my card, but I don't want to make it a square card. It costs more to mail a square envelope and I don't stock them. I know you can put a square card in a medium envelope, but then it can move around. So here is my solution - a square design in a rectangle format! Watch my video to see just how I make this beautiful card.
Gather your supplies:- Cardstock: Thick Very Vanilla 4-1/4" x 11"; Soft Suede 4" x 5"; Very Vanilla 3-1/2" square plus a scrap about 2-3/4" x 2-1/2"
- Stamp Bundle: Pretty Pumpkins
- Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Memento Black
- Timber 3-D Embossing Folder
- Hippo & Friends Dies
- Old Olive and Soft Suede Stampin' Write Markers
- Stampin' Blends in Pumpkin Pie, Soft Suede and Old Olive
- Diamond Weave Ribbon 5-1/2"
- Adhesive and Tools
Score your Very Vanilla card base at 4-1/4" and 5-1/2". Using your bone folder, fold the card in half and crease. Fold the front flap back and crease. Emboss the Soft Suede piece with the Timber embossing folder. Cut 1" off the short side so you will have two pieces - a 4" square and a 1" x 4" rectangle. Adhere these two pieces to the front of the card between the crease lines.
On the inside of the card front, add Seal+ adhesive along the top and bottom portions of the small area next to the fold. Place the ribbon on top of the Soft Suede panel, wrapping the ends to the inside where you placed adhesive. Glue this section together so that the card front has a 4-1/4" square flap.
On the scrap of Vanilla, stamp the pumpkin cluster with Memento black ink. Color the pumpkins with Blends and cut them out with the die. Cut a large label from Very Vanilla. Stamp the sentiment in the top right portion of the label with Pumpkin Pie. Add some "ground" to the lower quarter of the label using the Soft Suede Blends. Attach the pumpkins to the label with Dimensionals. Spritz the label with the Soft Suede Stampin' Write marker. Add more Dimensionals to the back of the label and affix to the card front in the center of the square. Add your inside sentiment and you're done!
This design is quite versatile as you can see with my other samples. You can change it up by adding DSP to the left and leaving the square area plain. Add a ribbon and bow, linen thread, or don't use any ribbon at all. Cut the DSP with a decorative edge (you will need to make it a bit smaller in width so you have room to space the two pieces out). Circles fit perfectly too. Have fun and let your imagination free!
