I love having sets of cards on hand for gift giving. You never know when you need something special for a friend, or want to surprise your favorite server (or delivery driver, or teacher, or co-worker....) with a surprise pack of coordinating handmade cards. The cards I show in my video are easy and quick to make with the Season of Chic bundle! It has a wide variety of sentiments, which make it a very versatile set to have on hand.
When I made my first set of cards, I chose papers from the Brights collection and featured the dies. Then for the next set, I went for a dramatic look with black card bases and pairs of eye-popping colors. These were made with all stamps and no dies. For my last set, and the style I demonstrate, I used a combo of stamps and dies and Soft Subtle for my colors.
Gather your supplies:
- Cardstock: Thick Basic White 8-1/2" x 5-1/2"; Calypso Coral 2" x 3-3/4", Basic White 6" x 1/8"
- Bundle: Season of Chic
- Ink: Calypso Coral
- Masking Paper
- Adhesive and Tools
Masking paper is like having a giant post-it note with stickiness all over the back. It is low tack and comes in 5" x 7" sheets. From one of the sheets, I cut 2" and peeled the backing off. I used my grid paper to help me align the masking paper 1-1/2" from the bottom of my card base. The masking paper is super thin and will give you a crisp edge when removed.
Stamp the sea shell in Calypso Coral ink all over the bottom of the card front, making sure you turn it in different directions. While you still have the stamp inky, I find it's a good idea to stamp the flap of my envelope and inside of the card. Next, carefully peal back the masking paper to reveal a clean, crisp edge. Even though this is fine the way it is, I liked adding a thin strip of Basic White to give it a more polished look.
Because I was making multiples of this card design, I set up my sentiment in the Stamparatus. It is an excellent tool for mass producing cards because once it's set up, you don't even have to think about the placement! Because the sentiment was so close to the right side of my card, I used an old drafting tool to add a buffer between the hinge and the card - this is a great trick to help you stamp better.
The last step is to cut out the sea shell dies and layer them together. I popped it up with Stampin' Dimensionals to the left of my sentiment. Other than the stamped images in the corner on the inside, I left the interior blank. I can easily add a sentiment later, or leave it up to the receiver to write their own message. For the other cards in this set, I used So Saffron, Pear Pizzazz and Balmy Blue.
Here is the first set I made with Brights, Black and White. You may not have realized it, but two circle punches were released again in the on-line exclusive offerings (yeah!!). I chose a birthday sentiment for the front of the card and the seasonal sentiment for the inside.
The last set is done with all stamping and is bold and bright and oh, so happy! I used a 4" x 2-1/2" piece of Basic White to stamp two swishes in pairs of complimenting colors. The gingham ribbon is the absolute perfect addition to finish the card. One suggestion I would make is to add a small mat around the white piece - a 4-1/8" x 2-5/8" piece of the darker ink would give it an extra pop. I made these all Thank You cards and left the inside blank (except for the stamps down the side edge of the white interior panel).
I would highly recommend this bundle - it's on page 99 of the annual catalog. Let me know in the comments of the
video which set is your favorite! Happy stamping and gift giving!
